In February 2013 I only just clicked over to double digits and decided to participate in the C25K running program. C25K gives you the opportunity to learn to run 5kms from couch in nine weeks. I struggled, struggled through the first few weeks, watching the clock continuously so I knew exactly when the running interval had finished.
In May 2013 my friend Molly and I ran our first fun run, 4kms Mothers Day Classic. We even did a practise run to make sure we could do it. After that run I declare to Molly that 5kms would be my running limit.
In November 2013 participated in the Central Coast 10km Run and at the end promptly declared to my husband that 10km is my limit. No more, can't run anymore, I'll just stick to 10kms and be happy.
Today I blew that out of the water!!!! OH YEAH!!!!!
I ran 14kms
14kms, yep 14 Fecking KMS!!!!!
Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that was possible.
I ran with some girls from the run club I've joined. It certainly helped the time and km click by having someone to chat to. The venue was gorgeous, down at Newington. It was incredibly early but we had to, to avoid the heat.
In May 2012 I had an arthroscopy on my knee to fix a meniscus tear and some cartilage damage. The surgeon recommend I loose some weight or I'd be having a knee replacement before I reached 60. He also suggested that I wouldn't be able to run, my knees wouldn't cope with the stress.
Well Mr Dr, I've lost nearly 40kg and with the weight loss, the running which has strengthened the muscles in my legs and around my knees I've come to love running. If I end up with a knee replacement then my body and internal organs have appreciated the weight loss and the exercise.
So, my moral to the story.
Don't restrict your potential by putting limits to your ability. You're only restricting your ability.
You rock star !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny how this love of running just creeps up on us and we keep aiming for bigger and better things.
