My husband turns 50 early March so I decided on planning a family holiday over the Xmas/New Year period. It was a good time to go, as we don't have family in Sydney so weren't upsetting any family.
We had 6 days in Penang and 6 days in Kuala Lumpur, about 10 days in total when you take out the day travelling over there, and yes it was a very long day of traveling, and the day traveling home.
I loved Penang, a bit more laid back than KL. We stayed in an apartment in Georgetown so were out of the touristy area of Batu Ferringhi. I loved that we hung with the locals, got our food from the local markets.
Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur
Monkeys at Penang Botanical Gardens
Pulling tea, the original way of making tea in Malaysia, with tea and condensed milk
I was really impressed with my attitude on holiday. Food was difficult as we didn't have choices we have at home, but my portion control was good. It was good to know I can control my food intake. I even convinced Garry to come running with me four times!! We went on Xmas morning and I wore a Xmas hat. There weren't many runners in Penang, I think we were a bit of a novelty, especially running on Xmas morning. We got lots and lots of 'good morning lady', 'merry xmas lady' from the locals.
I didn't run long distances, found the humidity quite draining, but I did run!!!
Brilliant pics, and good for you for keeping up with running while you were away. I did that too in the USA in November and it was such a highlight, even the few times I ran, to know I did. Great experiences.
