A new challenge - triathlon, what have I done??

This is the year to focus on my fitness.

I'm not going to sign up again to 12wbt.  It's been a life changing year (4 rounds), but it's now time to be a big girl and go on my own.  I'm reasonably happy with how my weight it, still have a few kg to go but know I can do it.  My focus is now on running.

I've joined a run club, where I can hopefully improve my running - stamina, style, speed and meet some other people of likeminded craziness.

We will have two run club afternoons a month, the first one on Sunday at 4pm.  I'm looking forward to it.

While deciding on signing up with run club, I signed up for a 12 week challenge that concludes on the weekend of 7-10 March.  It's a multi stage marathon and we will be required to run three 10km runs and one 12.95km run on four subsequent days.  The training for this is being complimented by my 12wbt training program.  At the moment all is going great, but secretly inside I'm shaking about that weekend.

And just to add to the craziness I signed up for a triathlon - the weekend after the Multi Stage Marathon.  I think it's going to be a no exercise week from the Tuesday to the Saturday except for a couple of massages.

The triathlon is in Parramatta and is a 300m swim, 9km bike ride and 3km run.  I think I'll be fine with the ride and run, will need to practise running after riding though.  The swim will be interesting, I used to be a swimmer but that was a long time ago.

Today I had my first swim, it took me 10 minutes to swim 300m, stopping at the end of each 25m and gasping for air.  My fitness is good for swimming but my breathing is crap!!!  It reminded me of just how far I've come and I know I can do this.  I'd be happy to get my swim down to 8 mins.  If I hadn't participated in 12wbt I probably would've swum today, struggled and not gone back.  But I now know effort and persistence achieves results.

I've participated in a few runs over the last 6-7 months and never fundraised but this time I thought I'd have a go at fundraising for the McGrath Foundation.  If you have a few spare dollars, please feel free to donate here
